Ben Carter

Thanks for supporting your favorite Castaway!

Ben

  • Team Role/Function:

  • How did you become a Castaway? I've watched and supported my good friend Josh Cantor as he has participated the last several years and decided this was the year to turn that support into action.

  • Why are you a Castaway? I have several family members and friends in my life who have been affected by cancer, including my friend Sune Smith who we tragically lost in 2016, far too young, and I want to contribute more to ending this disease.

  • Outside a kayak/bicycle, what is your "essential" gear? This one is hard to answer as it's my first year. Ask me again after the ride!

  • My Family: I have been married to my wife, Brogan, for six years. We have one fur baby, a beagle named Molly. My older sister lives in Charleston, SC, and my parents split time between Charleston and Fort Myers.

  • Where are you from? Lexington, KY

  • Where'd you go to school? Sayre School & University of Miami for undergrad and law school

  • Where do you work? I'm a lawyer at Kubicki Draper in the Appellate Division.

  • Favorite music/artists: Grateful Dead, Phish, Jason Isbell, Billy Strings

  • Favorite movies/genre: Big Lebowski, The Aviator, Boogie Nights

  • Favorite books: The Memory of Old Jack by Wendell Berry, Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut

  • Personal Fun Fact: I spent a semester of high school at The Outdoor Academy, which is an outdoor leadership school at Eagle's Nest Camp in Pisgah Forest, North Carolina.

  • How have I helped carry out the CAC mission of funding cancer research and honoring those who have fought the fight? I hope to bring awareness and financial support to Castaways' mission by participating in the ride to Key West.
